Missionaries Are Fun People

Miscellaneous Missionary Happenings

Elder and Sister Barnes
Elder and Sister Barnes from Downey, Idaho, recently
arrived in the mission and took the apartment next to ours.
They quickly grasped missionary life in Africa.
We left to their care two very valuable items:
our internet connection and Baba's friendship.

Elder Schow
Elder Schow recently won a long battle with a toe infection
after many prayers, blessings and two surgeries.
We think he deserves a special reward for maintaining
a positive attitude through his trials.
He suggested not having to pose for any more pictures
with 'concerned' senior missionaries would be appropriate!
He is a great missionary and a very fun person.

Elroy Daniels Elroy Daniels
Elroy Daniels from Ethiopia hanging
out with Elder and Sister Larkin
Elroy's parents were in the temple
where he joined them to be sealed.

Elder Tamueopeau Elder Tamueopeau recently completed his mission and returned home to Tonga. He was called to the Ivory Coast Abidjan Mission and went to the Provo MTC for French training. After the MTC, he spent several weeks in Atlanta, Georgia, waiting on a visa. He then served in Ivory Coast until civil unrest resulted in non-African missionaries being moved to the Ghana Accra Mission. After a few months working in Ghana, he was reassigned back to the Ivory Coast Abidjan Mission and transferred to Cameroon. He was serving there when the missions were realigned and he became part of the new Ghana Cape Coast Mission. He served well in four different mission in four different countries. It seems fitting that his routing home through LA required a transit visa which nobody remembered to get. So he worked another 10 days in Ghana before being rerouted through Australia to Tonga. We wonder if people believed his mission report!

Missionaries after Pizza Missionary Quartet
In the catagory of missionary fun,
we found a great place for pizza.
Nabile, the proprietor, with Barnes,
Markhams and Armstrongs
Pres. Gunnell, Elder Hales, Elder Larkin
and Elder Thompson have formed an
excellent gospel-barbershop quartet.
They sing at missionary gatherings.

Brother George Peleuah
Great news from Liberia--The Monrovia Stake now has a Family History computer!
(Jump to the March Update and read the "Temple Ready Disk" story to appreciate this news.)
Elder and Sister Armstrong made plans to travel there to train stake personnel.
Civil unrest around national elections caused their trip to be cancelled. They
arranged for Brother George Peleuah to come to Accra for the training. The training
went very well. Brother Peleuah will train others in Liberia and family history work
will move forward. He is also a stake auditor so we knew him from our training there in January.

Young Elders
Elders Sim (UK), Orr (Idaho), Hodges (S. Africa) and Wall (Utah)
Young missionaries aften dropped by to say hello. Perhaps
the cookies and candy in Sister Markham's and Sister Armstrong's
offices were factors. But we think they just like "parent" types.
We really miss daily interaction with these outstanding young men and
women who cleared the raised bar. Elders Orr and Hodges had just gotten
off the plane from Sierra Leone.

Elders Smart and Sim
We often saw our good friends Elder Smart
and Elder Sim, both from London, on
P-days as well as regular proselyting days.
Mouseover to see the difference.

Elder and Sister Anderson
Sister Mary and Elder Steve Anderson
The Andersons arrived in Ghana about a month after us.
At their request, their 18 month mission was extended
to the maximum of 23 months. They will spend the last six
months in Sierra Leone replacing the Thomases.
How do you spell valiant? We believe A-n-d-e-r-s-o-n is correct!
